Taylor's College is making waves with its student engagement arm, The Risers

This vibrant community is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world challenges. The Risers aims to equip high school students with essential skills and knowledge, preparing them to take proactive steps towards becoming well-rounded individuals both academically and in life.

At its core, The Risers serves as a platform to engage with secondary school leaders and students nationwide

It aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed for school and society, empowering them to chart their own paths while giving back to the community. Through their motto "Engage, Equip, and Empower", The Risers programmes focus on building school culture, community, and identity by promoting positive values, skills, and knowledge.

But what is it really like to be part of The Risers? Here's what two actively involved students had to say:

1. "Engaging with The Risers deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by underserved communities," shared Ludwina Anela Effiana Rumuat, a final-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) student at Taylor's

"It taught me empathy and the importance of supporting those in need, reinforcing my sense of social responsibility," said Ludwina.

One of the key initiatives Ludwina participated in was CAREbinet by The Risers, a programme aimed at reducing the financial burdens of families from low-income backgrounds. Through her involvement, she learned the true impact of community support.

Ludwina also shared that she was moved by her involvement in RISE Educator Award, championed by The Risers, realising the potential such initiatives have for the broader outlook of local education.

"As one of The Risers, I had the privilege of emceeing for RISE Educator Award alongside fellow ambassador Aidil. We were honoured by the presence of notable figures such as Yang Berhormat Wong Kah Woh, Deputy Minister of Education, Ms. Sawittri Charun, Interim Head of Fellowship, Teach For Malaysia, Professor Barry Winn, Taylor's Vice-Chancellor and President, and Ms. Josephine Tan, Campus Director at Taylor's College, as we celebrated the dedication of educators nationwide," she said.

2. "Involving myself in CAREbinet by The Risers has given me opportunities to step out of my comfort zone, engage with different people, and give back to the community," said Yap Han Ze, a first-year student of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Taylor's

"The experience during the CAREbinet by The Risers donation handover was definitely fulfilling. The A-level students were enthusiastic, sharing what they had bought from the fund they raised, including household supplies, stationery, and scientific calculators.

"It was impressive to see how our students are taking the initiative to fulfil the fundamental needs of underprivileged communities.

"These experiences definitely enriched my study time at Taylor's. It was fulfilling to involve myself in on-ground events, share personal experiences with students, and participate in volunteering activities such as CAREbinet by The Risers," reflected Yap.

Yap also participated in the Taylor's Cruiser by The Risers initiative, where he assisted students in exploring potential study pathways, experiencing the latest virtual reality technology, and understanding future learning methods. This initiative provided students with insights into various academic and career options they could pursue after completing secondary education.
