Much to the delight of consumers, the Pakatan Harapan-led government announced last Wednesday, 16 May, that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be set to zero come June

At present, GST is set at 6% for both local and imported goods and services, except for zero-rated items as provided for in the Goods and Services Tax Act 2014. 

The Sales and Services Tax (SST) will be introduced to offset the shortfall in revenue. 

Instead of waiting for June, a number of businesses have started offering 6% discounts and cashbacks early:

1. Watsons Malaysia
