Exactly 50 years ago, OMEGA received the coveted “Silver Snoopy Award” from the astronauts at NASA

To receive the Silver Snoopy Award is truly a special honour, as it is only bestowed upon those with outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success.

The award takes the form of a sterling silver Snoopy lapel pin, worn by the NASA astronauts during NASA missions. Said astronauts then personally present this coveted pin to the award recipients.

OMEGA’s journey to receiving the Silver Snoopy Award began back in 1965 when the iconic Speedmaster watch was declared “flight qualified” for all manned NASA space expeditions.

Just a few years later, in 1969, the Speedmaster became the first watch in space. Then, in 1970, it even played an integral role in ensuring the safe return of the Apollo 13 mission crew, for which OMEGA received the honour of the Silver Snoopy Award.

And now, 50 years after that incredible achievement, OMEGA has launched a special timepiece to commemorate the occasion – the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch

Even at a glance, this special timepiece is truly a magnificent creation that any horologist would love to add to their collection.

Snoopy is prominently showcased on the watch, both on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock and on the caseback, adding a touch of whimsy.

On the subdial lies an embossed silver medallion, depicting Snoopy in his iconic spacesuit, in the exact style of the silver pin that NASA astronauts give to award recipients.

The caseback is where the magic happens. Nestled within in a black and white Command and Service (CSM) module is another Snoopy.

Poised on a magic hand, Snoopy goes into orbit when the chronograph seconds hand is in use. He takes a trip around the mysterious far side of the moon, reminiscent of the Apollo 13 crew.

A tribute to space, the moon, and the stars, the blue-and-silver colour theme is beautifully eye-catching

From the sterling silver, laser-engraved main dial and two additional blue subdials, to the blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands, and blue nylon fabric strap, the various elements complement each other beautifully.

And to top it all off, the tachymeter scale, with the iconic “Dot over Ninety”, is shown in white enamel on a blue ceramic bezel ring.

Each element stands out, yet also come together harmoniously to create a truly unique design.

Keen eyes will be able to spot all the meticulous details that highlight the significance of the Silver Snoopy Award, bringing the award to life as a one-of-a-kind timepiece

Combining animation with watchmaking art, OMEGA has produced a timepiece of exceptional style that showcases their superb attention to detail.

Inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style, which was the first watch worn on the moon in 1969, the 42mm case is made of stainless steel. Flip it over, and a whole new world opens up before your eyes on the caseback.

Using a unique micro-structured metallisation, the surface of the moon has been decorated on the sapphire crystal. In the distance is an image of Earth, our home. Symbolising Earth’s precise rotations, the disc rotates once per minute, in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand.

The iconic “Eyes on the Stars” quote also makes an appearance, beautifully engraved within the black universe.

Other intricate details include the date, 'April 1970', which was when OMEGA received the Silver Snoopy Award, as well as 'Apollo XIII', a tribute to the risky Apollo 13 mission, both of which are engraved on the caseback.

The final detail that ties everything together is the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission embossed on the lining of the watch strap, including their famous slingshot around the far side of the moon.

Though this exquisite timepiece won’t be a limited production, there is a long waiting list for it.

So, you may want to place your reservation at OMEGA Boutiques.

Powered by OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861, the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch carries the Master Chronometer certification from the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

Additionally, the NAIAD LOCK keeps all caseback engravings in the correct, upright position.

It comes with OMEGA's full five-year warranty, as well as its very own Apollo 13 presentation box. The box includes a microfibre cleaning cloth, a brochure, and a magnifying glass to help you see all the stunning details up close.
