These M'sians Turned Their Humble Dreams Into Thriving Businesses. Here Are Their Stories
From achieving 80,000 orders to building a multi-million enterprise, these stories will inspire you to pursue your goals!
What does embracing prosperity mean to you?
For some, it could mean being the owner of a multi-million ringgit business. For others, it could be spending quality time together with your loved ones, without having to fret over finances.
With Chinese New Year approaching, we spoke to a few local entrepreneurs to hear what they define as success. In collaboration with Shopee, they share their success stories that'll inspire you to overcome whatever challenges you face this year!
Meet Wong Yung Ming and Lee Sze Yee, a husband-and-wife team behind Sunspin, a homegrown brand selling healthy food products
Back in 2020, Wong and Lee started Sunspin from their Johor home, with a mission to make healthy eating simple for Malaysian families. As busy parents of two, they wanted affordable and nutritious options like Konjac noodles and Black Garlic to be more accessible.
At first, it was a small side hustle, selling locally, but their move to e-commerce transformed their business.
"We started engaging with Shopee Affiliates in 2024 and these local KOLs have supported us by driving new and repeat buyers to our store. In the last year alone, we consistently achieved a ninefold increase in daily orders during campaign days, thanks to these affiliates.
"We're overwhelmed to share that we have sold over 80,000 items since joining Shopee, reflecting the trust families place in our products," shared Wong, who left his IT career in early 2024 to focus on Sunspin full-time.
Their growth didn’t stop there. Shopee's Kempen Tani programme, which supports agropreneurs, gave them resources to grow further. From workshops to live demos, they learned how to boost traffic and sales.
"Expanding our business while prioritising family has always been our goal. It’s rewarding to see how our efforts have brought both stability and precious moments with our family," he shared.
As for Bryan Ng, the director of FunFun.inShop, he never expected his home experiment to turn into a multi-million ringgit business within four years
In 2021, Bryan Ng worked at a logistics company where he met several Shopee sellers who shared their experiences of building online businesses.
"Hearing their stories gave me the confidence to give it a try myself," Bryan recalls.
During the Movement Control Order (MCO), he started small by uploading a few products to Shopee from his home. Orders started rolling in—at one point, up to 200 to 300 a day.
"It was an eye-opener for me. What started as a small experiment quickly turned into something much bigger," he shared.
In 2024 alone, FunFun.inShop achieved over RM4 million, with sales increasing by 260%. Bryan credits this success to a combination of understanding market trends, maintaining competitive pricing, and using Shopee's features like Shopee ads, livestreams, and campaigns to boost visibility and reach more customers.
"I started with just a handful of products, and now we've built something that supports so many people. This journey has changed my life for the better, and I’m so grateful for the platform that made it all possible," he shared.
For Sunspin's Wong and Lee, as well as FunFun.inShop's Bryan, e-commerce platforms like Shopee have helped turn their humble dreams into successful businesses
Now celebrating its 10th year in Malaysia, Shopee continues to give local entrepreneurs the tools they need to thrive in today's digital economy.
Their stories are also proof of Malaysia's innovative spirit and resilience. As the country continues to grow as a digital hub, they remind us that with passion, grit, and the right platform, success and prosperity are within reach — however we choose to define them.
