Each year, the PETRONAS Malaysia Open sees the world's best badminton players duke it out on court for the coveted trophy and precious BWF World Tour points, all while the energetic crowd fills the stadium with deafening cheers and screams for their favourites.

This year's edition, held at the Axiata Arena from 7 to 12 January, saw plenty of action. China's Shi Yuqi and South Korea's An Se-young emerged as singles champions, each earning USD101,500 (RM451,000) and 12,000 BWF World Tour points.

The doubles titles were claimed by South Korea's Kim/Seo (men's), Japan's Fukushima/Matsumoto (women's), and Thailand's Puavaranukroh/Paewsampran (mixed), with each pair receiving USD107,300 (RM477,000) and 10,200 BWF points.

This year, like every other year, the best badminton players from around the world took to the courts in adrenaline-fueled matches that played out in both dominating displays as well as shocking upsets.

Of course, Malaysian fans also had the chance to see their local heroes in action, including women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, men's singles player Leong Jun Hao, as well as mixed doubles competitors Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei.

Local women's doubles favourites Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan were cheered on by the Malaysian supporters.
