This 32-Year-Old Baker Left His Retail Job To Make Macarons, Ice Cream, And More

Meet Dixon Cheng.

After 12 years working in the retail industry, he decided to pursue his lifelong passion in baking and pastry-making again.

This 32-year-old decided to rekindle his passion after leaving his job in the luxury retail industry to open an online desserts shop called Crunchie Co.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Crunchie Co specialises in two of their bestselling desserts: macarons and chocolate bonbons

In an interview with SAYS, Dixon told us he decided to open a home bakery while the retail industry was impacted by the pandemic.

"Me and my wife started Crunchie Co as a side project and as time went by, I decided to pursue further in the area and left my retail profession," Dixon said.

"It has always been my dream to work in this line of profession"

In 2010, Dixon initially started off his career as a pastry and baking chef in Singapore with a Diploma in Pastry and Baking before he joined the luxury retail industry for 12 years.

"With my rusty skills after so long, I was encouraged by my wife to pick it up again and explore as I still have the passion in pastries and baking after many years of leaving the F&B industry," said Dixon.

When we asked Dixon how his family and friends reacted to his career change, he told us, "[They've] been extremely supportive of my journey to venture and open my home bakery. I have only received positive feedback for my opening and was encouraged to take my first step. I am very grateful to them."

Crunchie Co specialises in macarons and chocolate bonbons. As of today, their bestselling dessert are the macarons. What makes their macarons unique is that there are different new flavours every month.
