Luxury is often associated with a hefty price tag, but that doesn't always have to be the case

If you've been yearning for a luxurious staycation but don't want to break the bank, then The Chow Kit - An Ormond Hotel is the perfect place for you.

Located right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, this hotel looks like it's straight out of the 1920s

You can tell that a lot of thought was put into the design of the space. It's decked with dazzling gold details that pop against a background of neutral colours.

When you step into the lobby, you'll be greeted with soothing jazz music and romantic lights.

The check-in process is hassle-free and will not take more than a few minutes. You can sit in one of their fancy lounge chairs and enjoy a glass of water while the friendly staff sort everything out for you.

There are several types of rooms at The Chow Kit but our personal favourite is The King Den as it comes with a stunning view of KL city

Named after Chow Kit's infamous historical gambling dens, The King Den features timber floors, a smart TV, and an en suite bathroom.

The best feature of the room is its floor-to-ceiling windows that really makes the space feel much larger than it actually is.

From the bed, you'll be able to enjoy a magnificent view of the KL tower and occasionally, monorails will pass by your window.

Despite being in the middle of the hustle and bustle of KL, we found that the room was pleasantly quiet and soundproof. Besides that, the huge king bed with its luxury linen gave us the best sleep we've had in ages.

If you're looking for something with more space, you could opt for the suites instead

All of the different suites are named after the Hokkien word for 'boss', aka 'towkay'.

They are complete with living spaces and comfortable seating areas, making them perfect for longer stays.

Not only that, malls and famous eateries are all within walking distance and the hotel is accessible by public transport

You'll never run out of things to do during your stay as both SOGO and Quill City Mall are less than 500m away.

Meanwhile, popular restaurants such as Tapestry Cafe, RSMY Best Cheese Naan, and Little Rara Thai Noodle house are all within walking distance.

The Medan Tuanku monorail station is only 270m away and it can take you directly to places such as Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, and KL Sentral. Talk about convenience!

However, if you're not big on walking, you can also enjoy a meal at the in-house restaurant.

Previously, CNN Travel named The Chow Kit Kitchen and Bar as one of the best new restaurants in the Asia Pacific.

With an impressive menu by award-winning restaurateurs Christian Bauer and Eddie Chew of Troika Sky Dining, The Chow Kit Kitchen and Bar serves familiar local cuisine with a modern twist.

If you're there for breakfast, we'd recommend trying their nasi lemak and continental breakfast.

The nasi lemak comes with spicy shrimp sambal that packed quite a punch and it was also served with chicken floss, a perfectly boiled egg, beef rendang, and the usual peanuts and crispy anchovies.

Meanwhile, the continental breakfast is truly a meal fit for a king. It consists of freshly baked croissants, soft boiled eggs, toast, butter, a small jar of homemade jam, and a bowl of fruit salad.

For lunch or dinner, the Chow Kit Fish and Chips is a must-have. With an entire tandoori marinated garoupa served on the plate, we rate the presentation a 10/10. It's also served with crispy kale, thick hand-cut chips, and fresh and tangy tartare sauce.

As a side dish or appetiser, try the Rojak-Rojak which is their version of the popular street food. It's a colourful mix of crispy prawn fritters, coconut crackers, pineapple, fried tempeh, smoked tauhu, creamy boiled egg, and shredded vegetables with a drizzle of peanut and pomegranate sauce.
