According to a Mother's Day Shopping Survey by Groupon, 64% Of Malaysian mothers prefer their Mother's Day gift to be a surprise
26% of Malaysian mothers would like to receive a gift that they have never tried before
Malaysia was also among the top three countries in APAC where the majority of mums would like their gifts to be a total surprise. In addition, the study also discovered that 26% of Malaysian mums would most like to receive a gift that they have never tried before, higher than Hong Kong (20%), Australia (16%), Singapore (16%), New Zealand (15%), Taiwan (12%) and Japan (7%).

At the same time, Malaysian mothers palce an overseas holiday (72%), Diamond Jewellery (30%) and dinner in a fancy restaurant (26%) as the top three things they would like to receive on Mother’s day.

69% of Malaysians intend to buy a Mother's Day gift this 2014. They are expected to spend an average of RM267.
Malaysians are expected to spend an average of MYR267 on Mother’s day gifts this year, with more 68% of them planning to spend more than MYR151. The study also indicated that 69% of Malaysians intend to get a Mother’s day gift this year.

Still, finding a special gift for Mother’s day is not always easy. About half of Malaysians (49%) said choosing the right gift for their mums is the most stressful element of giving a Mother’s Day gift, followed by the budget and the worry of picking up a gift they might not like.

Data was collected from 4,933 respondents across 8 countries in Asia Pacific (Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan). Surveys were sent electronically to subscribers of Groupon. Fieldwork was conducted online between 7 - 22 April 2014.
