Check Out This Vibrant Art Exhibit In TRX Featuring Budding Local Artists
It's located in the TRX Link Building, which is connected to the MRT!
Do you work around TRX or frequent the mall often?
If so, you should definitely check out the TRX Canvas Collective, an all-new initiative by TRX to celebrate emerging local artists, woah!
The TRX Canvas Collective is a revolving art installation, reflecting TRX's vision in championing Kuala Lumpur's lifestyle and culture scene. The first installation, Whimsical Wonderland, immerses you in the imaginative worlds crafted by artists who redefine the ordinary and transport you beyond the everyday.
Housed within the spectacular glass structure, TRX Link Building, the installation is open to the public for free until 8 January.
With thousands of office workers, shoppers, and MRT commuters passing through the building daily, the initiative also gives exposure to up-and-coming artists, while promoting the local art scene.
All in all, the TRX Canvas Collective is the perfect addition to TRX, a vibrant urban space where business and finance thrive alongside arts and creativity, brought to life through curated installations, community programmes, and exciting events.
For Afi Sulaiman, being featured in the TRX Canvas Collective was an honour — she sees it as a great way for artists to collaborate with the forward-thinking TRX district
"I feel like it's a good opportunity for me. I've already been contacted by some people for commissions (thanks to this installation). I'm quite pleased to see it displayed very nicely and curated so beautifully.
"It's also a great opportunity to pay respects to local artists. And it's definitely good exposure for art appreciation and art education, since TRX has so many people coming and going, from corporate workers to mall-goers," said Afi.
Her series of digital collages, Positive Affirmations I, II, and III, were inspired by the environment an Asian child grows up in.
"My parents were quite tough and stern growing up, so what I did was to constantly remind myself to balance their expectations with self-acceptance and self-love. With the theme of dreamscapes, I also wanted to showcase that daydreaming can get you somewhere as long as you strike a balance," said Afi.
As for Lim Tong Xin (Tong), it was an exciting opportunity since it was only her second time doing such a large-scale exhibit at a public area with heavy footfall
"I was quite surprised when TRX DM-ed me to be part of the TRX Canvas Collective. So, I was willing to try and give it a go, and I'm really happy with how it all turned out.
"With the TRX Canvas Collective, every day a different audience passes by to see it. Since many of them are professionals, I believe they'll each approach it from a unique perspective. Hopefully, this will also sow back into the local art scene," said Tong.
Tong's compositions are characterised by bold contrast, vibrant colours, and complex lines, as seen in her larger-than-life art pieces showcased at the TRX Canvas Collective.
Using a mixed medium of drawing and painting, Tong explained how her artworks tell the story of her journey as an artist. From chasing her dreams and starting out as a nobody to overcoming challenges along the way, Tong believes we can all relate to each other's journeys.
Wanna see Afi and Tong's artworks up close and personal, along with showcases from five other local artists?
Make sure you head over to the TRX Link Building from now to 8 January!
