Sad news for candle lovers in Malaysia — Yankee Candle might soon bid farewell to its operations in the country
In a statement to SAYS, a spokesperson for Yankee Candle revealed, "We are writing to inform you about the potential shutdown of Yankee Candle operations in Malaysia. This decision has been under consideration due to several factors, including market performance and logistical challenges."
The brand, beloved for its wide variety of scented candles, has faced tough times in Malaysia
Sales have seen a significant decline over the past few years, despite increased efforts in marketing and distribution. Unfortunately, these efforts didn't produce the results the company hoped for.
Adding to the challenges are the rising costs of importing and distributing Yankee Candle products in Malaysia. These financial pressures have made it difficult for the company to maintain its operations in the region.
"We wanted to ensure that all aspects were thoroughly reviewed before making any formal announcements. Your understanding and patience during this time are greatly appreciated," the spokesperson added.
While this isn't a final decision yet, it seems Yankee Candle fans in Malaysia may need to stock up on their favourite scents before it's too late
Yankee Candle previously had several outlets, including in Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Velocity Mall, but these have since closed.
Currently, the sole distributor of Yankee Candle in Malaysia is Purely Malaysia.
Purely Malaysia operates a physical outlet at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, where it sells Yankee Candle products. Additionally, there is a Yankee Candle outlet located at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
