Denmark recently recalled three varieties of Samyang noodles due to its excessive spiciness

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration considers the level of capsaicin — the compound that makes chilli peppers hot — a potential health hazard.

The three flavours being withdrawn are Samyang's Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Hot Chicken Stew.

Officials claim the levels of capsaicin in a single packet are "so high that they pose a risk of the consumer developing acute poisoning".

"The amount of chilli is even higher in the noodles than in chilli chips, which have previously caused poisoning among children in Germany."

The noodle manufacturing company, Samyang Foods, said there is no problem with the quality of the food

"We understand that the Danish food authority recalled the products, not because of a problem in their quality but because they were too spicy," the company said in a statement to BBC.

"Currently, the products are being exported around the world, but this is the first time they have been recalled for this reason," a spokesperson for the company told AFP.

The company added that it would work to better understand local regulations in export markets.

Denmark's food regulator urged consumers to avoid eating the products and to return them to the shops where they were bought

"Parents whose children have eaten these noodles and show signs of poisoning are encouraged to contact the Poison Line.

"Consumers who have purchased these items are urged to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund," the agency said on its website, according to the New Straits Times.

They added there is no need for concern if consumers ate the products and did not experience any symptoms.

Samyang Foods has been around since 1961 and is most famous for their instant noodles, which come in varying levels of spiciness

They've grown into a major international food manufacturer with a presence worldwide.

Beyond ramen, they also produce dairy products, and even their own line of sauces.
