An 11-year-old schoolboy claimed he was slapped so hard by his school teacher that he suffered a ruptured eardrum. Year Five pupil Tan Xin Ren said the teacher also smacked him in the back and pulled his ear in class.

“He was apparently upset because he saw me putting away my books before the lesson ended at 1.30pm on Tuesday. He called me to his table after all my classmates had left and smacked me in the back."

Tee Beng said his nephew’s cheek was red and swollen as seen from a picture taken by his tuition teacher soon after the incident.

Xin Ren, Tee Beng’s eldest brother’s youngest son, has been hospitalised to receive medical treatment at the general hospital.
The incident took place at a co-ed vernacular school in Bagan Jermal area at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

“We then brought him for a medical check-up, the videoscopy report shows that his left eardrum was injured. His hearing is now affected. “We do not know if it is temporary or permanent,” he said.

Other students from the same school say the teacher is intimidating, fierce and aggressive when disciplining pupils

Xin Ren, who has a red mark on the left cheek, told newsmen that he was terrified when the teacher asked him for his father’s mobile number.
The pupil described the teacher, believed to be in his 40s, as “intimidating and fierce.”

Sources revealed that the boy had told police that the teacher, who is ethnic Malay, had also verbally threatened him with racial remarks.
