On Sunday, two Kedah PKR members were remanded for six by MACC over an investigation into allegations that the duo took bribe

Both men were arrested a day before on Saturday, 15 September; one at a restaurant in Alor Star and the other at the Pendang Toll Plaza along the North-South Expressway.

They were taken to Alor Setar Magistrates' Court, escorted by MACC officers, where Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi granted a remand order until 21 September.

The duo, who are members of the Kedah PKR election committee, allegedly asked for a bribe of RM20,000 from a candidate to keep his name as a registered candidate for a PKR division's election

"The suspects are believed to have solicited RM20,000 from a man to have his name retained in (a database) as a registered candidate, to enable him to contest in the leadership selection.

"The suspects allegedly told the man that his name, as well as those of several other individuals, would otherwise be dropped from the list of candidates," according to a report in NST Online, which quoted a source as saying.

MACC also seized RM10,000 cash from both suspects following their arrests.

Kedah MACC director Mohd Fauzi Mohamad said that they are investigating the case under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009
