A French tourist has gone missing in Pulau Tioman, almost three months after Briton Gareth David Huntley was found dead following a jungle trek.

Rompin Police chief DSP Johari Jahaya said the tourist, Jerome Philippe Laurent, 24, had been snorkelling in front of the Berjaya Tioman Resort at about 3 pm.
Jerome Phillipe Laurent had earlier gone for a snorkelling trip by himself at a popular resort nearby about 3pm.
Laurent's Friend Raised An Alarm When He Failed To Return To His Chalet By 5.30pm
Laurent had apparently gone snorkelling at about 3pm on Tuesday. When he failed to return to his chalet by 5.30pm, his friend raised an alarm.

Police Dispatched A Search Team After Being Informed At 6.30pm. However, The Search Had To Be Called Off At 8pm Due To Nightfall And Bad Weather.

The Search Resumed At 8am On Thursday With 26 Personnel From Police, Marine Police, Fire And Rescue Service, And The Department Of Civil Defence
Johari said the search resumed at 8 am today, with 26 personnel from the police, marine police, fire and rescue service and Department of Civil Defence scouring the sea in three boats.
State police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Sharifuddin Abdul Ghani said: “I have instructed the district police chief to go all out to locate the missing foreigner.”

The body of French tourist, Jerome Philippe Laurent, who was reported missing in Pulau Tioman since Tuesday, was found by a search-and-rescue team at 2.16pm Thursday.

SDCP Sharifuddin said this when supervising a site visit to Kelau dam in Raub by Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob yesterday. He also urged those participating in sea activities, such as swimming and snorkelling, to go in pairs to avoid any untoward incident.
