A couple in Penang is desperately searching for their 26-year-old daughter, who has been out of contact since last Monday, 24 February

According to China Press, Zheng Yiwen (transliterated from Chinese) was reportedly working and living alone in Kuala Lumpur when she suddenly disappeared.

Her parents, Zheng Tianci, 64, and Wu Meirong, 63, said Yiwen moved away from their hometown in Simpang Ampat, Seberang Perai, about three years ago, but stayed in regular contact with her mother.

Yiwen's mother said they last spoke over the phone at around 8am on Saturday, 22 February, as it was the weekend and her daughter was not at work

"We chatted for about half an hour, and I mentioned to my daughter that if work in Kuala Lumpur doesn't go well, she could consider following her cousin to work in Australia," the mother told China Press.

However, when she tried to contact her daughter again at around 7am on Monday, 24 February, she received no response.

Messages and phone calls continued to go unanswered the next day. Concerned, as this had never happened before, the couple lodged a missing person police report on Tuesday, 25 February.

The parents admitted that since their daughter had always been independent, they did not know the specifics of her residence and workplace in Kuala Lumpur

Sin Chew Daily reported that they only knew their daughter lived in an apartment in Kepong and worked in sales.

The couple said they last saw Yiwen in Penang when she returned home for two weeks during Chinese New Year in January.

Adding to their concerns, they noted that Yiwen's passport was missing from their home, raising doubts about whether she was still in the country.

On Friday, 28 February, the parents also received a package from an address in Tokyo, Japan, addressed to Yiwen.

Inside, they found an empty luxury watch box containing only a warranty card and an operating manual. They had opened the parcel, fearing it could be a ransom demand.

In an update on Sunday, 2 March, Yiwen's father said they have received numerous sympathy calls, but no extortion calls or concrete leads on her whereabouts

The couple plans to visit the Immigration Department today, 3 March, to check her travel records.

Meanwhile, according to China Press, police investigations revealed that Yiwen had actually worked in Johor in 2023, not Kuala Lumpur, contrary to what her parents believed.

Anyone with information on Yiwen's whereabouts is urged to contact her parents at +6017-2538861.
