7-Eleven Malaysia has addressed the public's concerns over the Nutrimalt drink, a beverage produced by the Carlsberg Group, that is currently sold at their outlets

The controversy occurred after a video posted by a Muslim preacher named Ustaz Syah went viral on TikTok.

In the video, Syah advised people not to buy Nutrimalt drinks from the convenience store while questioning the product's halal certification.

He also said that the product is made by the Carlsberg brewery, implying that it may contain alcohol.

After the preacher's video went viral, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) stated that the beverage does not have a halal certificate

The Islamic Affairs department stated on its Facebook that the company is not eligible to request a Malaysian Halal Confirmation Certificate (SPHM).

As Per Clause 6 (2), the Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual (Domestic) 2020, companies that produce halal and non-halal products (including food delivery services) are not eligible to apply for Malaysian halal certification.

It also recommended Muslims to choose (food or beverage) products that have a Malaysian Halal Certification and follow the halal-related guidelines and legislation that have been set in the country.

Amidst the public's concern, 7-Eleven's management stated that they have checked with the manufacturer about the beverage's non-alcoholic status

According to the 7-Eleven statement, the management took immediate action and clarified the matter.

"The manufacturer gave us an official response of confirming that the product is non-alcoholic," 7-Eleven said.

It further stated that all of its products undergo extensive processing that ensures safety for consumption by all of its customers.

Nonetheless, 7-Eleven stated that it is always glad to hear customers' feedback, whether it is positive or negative because it strives to improve.

"We feel that constant improvement is important for us to provide the best experience for our customers," it said in the statement.
