9-Year-Old Boy Is Attacked By Crocodile While Swimming With Friends During High Tide

A Sabah Wildlife Department officer has advised residents to stay alert and stop children from playing near the river.

On Tuesday, 23 May, a nine-year-old boy's swimming trip with his friends turned into a nightmare when he was attacked by a crocodile in Sandakan, Sabah

According to The Star, the boy was attacked by the reptile at around 1pm when he and his friends were swimming in the river near their home in Kampung Batu Putih during a high tide.

The boy struggled to break free from the jaws of the beast and sustained bites to his hand, shoulder, and head.

The boy's father came to his rescue took him to a private clinic.

He received eight stitches on his hand and is currently in stable condition.

Sabah Wildlife Department's Sandakan assistant officer Mozain Abbas said a wildlife team monitored the area after the incident

"After the water subsided, my team scouted the area but there was no sign of the crocodile," he said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

He advised residents to stay alert and stop children from playing near the river.

According to The Straits Times, there were two other crocodile attacks reported in Sabah this month.

Another incident happened on the same day in Sandakan as well, where a 12-year-old boy was killed in a crocodile attack on Sumangat Payu island.

The other attack took place early this month, where a 28-year-old man's torso was found after he went missing while washing his hands and legs near a riverbank in Beluran district.
