Two Thieves Robbed A GrabCar Driver By Pretending To Be Passengers

They also assaulted him, causing injury to his face and head.

In an incident that occurred late last night, at 1am, 10 August, a 27-year-old driver for GrabCar was assaulted by two of his passengers when they attempted to rob him at Taman Sri Jelok in Kajang

The two passengers had hired the GrabCar from Ampang to take them to Kajang.

However, they were actually robbers, who have a total of 10 previous criminal records between them, according to Kajang police chief ACP Othman Nanyan.

He was sent to Hospital Kajang for treatment, ACP Othman Nanyan said.

However, he was aided by passers-by who nabbed the two men

They were later handed over to the Kajang police for further action. Both are aged 39 and will be remanded until 15 August to facilitate investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.

Meanwhile, Grab, which was formerly known as MyTeksi, have come forward in support of the driver, who was identified only as 'Azly'

They have issued a statement condemning the assault and stated that they are extending their full support to Azly and his family, which includes overseeing medical bills and repair of his car.

"Azly, has been a Grab drier for only six months but even in such a brief time, he has been received very positive ratings from his passengers and his performance has been commendable," the statement notes.

Grab also stressed that they will fully cooperate with the police to facilitate the investigation as they do not condone any form of violence, be it by drivers or passengers.
