A Man Jumped Into Sea To Avoid Getting Arrested For Defying MCO In Penang
His friends weren't so lucky.
A man jumped into the sea from a fish landing jetty in Penang to avoid being arrested by cops for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO)
In the incident that happened Saturday evening at about 5.30pm, 28 March, the man jumped into the sea and swam out for about 50 metres at a fish landing jetty in Jelutong, George Town, Bernama reported.
The man, in his 20s, also refused to go ashore despite being persuaded several times by the police.
Fearing he might endanger his life by swimming out further, cops stopped persuading him to return to shore and focused on his friends
They arrested 13 of his friends who tried to escape, too.
A Northeast district police headquarters team found all of them loitering inside a fishing lodge at the jetty.
The MCO, which came into effect on 18 March, has been extended until 14 April following a rise of COVID-19 cases in the country
As of Saturday, 28 March, Malaysia has recorded fourteenth consecutive days of a three-digit increase in COVID-19 cases, with the largest, single-day increase being at 235 cases on Thursday, 26 March.
So far, 27 people have died of COVID-19 in the country.
