An Angry Bersih 5 Supporter Would Have Broken Police Blockades If Not For This Young Guy
It's a lesson in how to remain calm despite the situation.
A frustrated rally-goer wanted to challenge the police barricade at Dataran Merdeka during Bersih 5 today, 19 November
The man went up to former Bersih co-chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan to voice out his opinion, attempting to convince her to ask the rest of the supporters to barge through the blockades set up by the police.
A video clip has been making its rounds depicting the man arguing with Ambiga about the matter.
"I go through first. If they want to shoot, (they'll) shoot me first," the man was heard saying.
However, activist Adam Adli stepped in and urged the elderly man to cool down and not let emotions get the better of him
"Think about other people! I have been detained before so many times," Adam told the man.
To this, the man said that he too has been detained before.
"You should know better. We don't want to hurt people. Please, it's okay," the young activist added.
"We cannot be a bl##dy fool until the world ends. We cannot," the uncle retorted.
"Kesabaran mengatasi semua benda (Everything can be overcome through patience)," Adam said calmly.
He stressed that Bersih must be better than the Red Shirts and should never resort to violence or break the law.
Later, Adam explained that he respects and understands that everyone had the right to their own opinion but that the rally must not be jeopardised
"Throughout these past two months we have been restrained and tolerant, and trying to set good examples. If we suddenly decide today that we are going to become violent then the past years would have been a waste."
"That was the point I was trying to get across and the man understands that now," he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
