Agong Issues Statement Addressing The Rakyat's Anxiety Over The Situation In The Country

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong will be consulting the Malay Rulers on the proposal raised by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has now addressed people's concern about the latest political development amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in the country

In a statement today, 24 October, Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that the King is very concerned about the anxiety and frustration felt by the people amidst the current situation.

His Majesty, therefore, advises people to remain calm and be patient in facing the latest situation following Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's audience after the special Cabinet meeting on Friday, 23 October.

"Al-Sultan Abdullah fully understands the need for the continuity of the country's administration to combat the threat of the COVID-19 epidemic," Ahmad Fadil said in the statement.

Ahmad Fadil said that the Agong will be consulting the Malay Rulers at Istana Negara on the proposal raised by PM Muhyiddin

"Following the session yesterday, Al-Sultan Abdullah has agreed to consult fellow Malay Rulers at Istana Negara soon to discuss and deliberate the proposal raised by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin," he said.

The statement did not touch on the details of the proposals

Although, mainstream outlets have been rife with speculations that during his meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Abdul Aziz in Indera Mahkota, Kuantan yesterday, Muhyiddin had proposed for a declaration of emergency which entails the prorogation of Parliament.
