Woman Trapped In Car After Alleged Drunk Driver Rammed Into Several Vehicles On The LDP
However, the police are unable to arrest the man as the case is only classified as an "accident".
An allegedly drunk driver left a trail of destruction along the Kelana Jaya section of the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) on Tuesday, 27 February after recklessly ploughing through several cars along the expressway
In a Facebook post that has gone viral, a woman related how her mother's car toppled over after getting hit by the allegedly drunk driver, trapping her in the vehicle
"While she was trapped in the car, she kept pressing the horn, but no one stopped to help until a police patrol van came to the rescue and pulled her out," she wrote, claiming that the errant driver collided with six or seven cars in the accident.
At the time of writing, the post has been shared more than 1,500 times on Facebook since it was published on Wednesday, 28 February.
According to her post, one of the victims whose car got hit managed to chase after the errant driver and caught up with him at a nearby shopping mall
When confronted about his reckless behaviour, the driver became defensive and started shouting at the person recording a video of the confrontation.
However, the woman wrote that the authorities are unable to arrest the man, as the case is only classified as an "accident" in the police report
"Authorities said they can’t arrest the man. Because it’s an 'accident'. Only fine for drunk driving and wait for court case," she explained in her Facebook post.
It is worth noting that Section 279 of the Penal Code provides for reckless driving or riding, which carries a maximum jail term of six months or fine up to RM2,000 or both.
"I hate how people boast proudly on how they drink and drive. How selfish can they be?"
"I could have lost my mum on a Tuesday night, and worst, on my birthday just because a drunk irresponsible man doesn't care about his life," she lamented, adding that those who are too inebriated to drive should consider taking Uber instead.
