Amar Singh: "We Are Carrying Out Our Duty Without Fear Or Favour"
He was responding to an UMNO leader who warned him from talking about 1MDB.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director Commissioner Amar Singh has advised former Federal Territories UMNO Youth chief Razlan Rafii, who warned him to stop talking about 1MDB, to not to make empty vessel statements
"At this point in time, the case which is ongoing in court (involving Najib) is related to SRC International Sdn Bhd funds and not 1MDB.
"He (Razlan) can say anything he wants, as long as it does not violate the country's laws," New Straits Times quoted the CCID Director Commissioner said in his no-nonsense demeanour which has earned him the title of "Singh is King" among netizens.
Describing the so-called warning by UMNO's Razlan, who warned him to stop giving statements related to the 1MDB case, as something coming from "tin kosong" (empty tin can), Amar Singh added that Razlan's warning did not hold water and that he has no time to waste and give any attention to the Seputeh UMNO division chief.
"I wouldn't waste my time on him, nor pay heed to his statement as he's got the whole 'interim gag order' wrong. Empty vessels make the most noise."
Amar Singh, who found unexpected Internet fame amidst investigations into the scandal-plagued 1MDB, also said that he would continue to do his work fairly without taking any sides
"We are carrying out our duty without fear or favour and we do this professionally," the head of Bukit Aman’s CCID added.
Razlan had warned Amar Singh and MACC on Thursday to stop talking about 1MDB in view of the temporary gag order issued by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, allegedly to prevent the former prime minister Najib Razak from undergoing a trial by media.
"MACC and Amar: Stop talking about 1MDB. Don't let the media judge Najib. I am warning you," the UMNO leader could be heard saying in a video by Malaysiakini.
"Don't be so eager to talk about this and that list, about the millions seized... RM1.1 billion. There is no truth to these negative matters and it prejudices Najib in the eyes of the people. Whether he is guilty or not, let the courts decide. Civil servants shouldn't play this perception game," Razlan had said in his warning.
The CCID Director Commissioner also responded to Najib's son Mohd Nazifuddin who questioned the motive behind the recent series of raids and press conferences conducted by the police
"Isn't it a standard operating procedure (SOP) not to share such details while investigations are ongoing? Is it done just to further ostracise my father?" Mohd Nazifuddin had asked on Thursday, according to a report in The Star Online.
To which, Amar Singh said that the police adhered to the standard operating procedure (SOP) in conducting the raids and press conferences on the matter.
"We have a duty to the public to disclose what we discovered and seized. There is no question of not adhering to the SOP.
"It is the same as any other raid, such as a drug raid where we disclosed the items seized as well as its value," The Star Online quoted Amar Singh as saying.
