Baby Girl Dies In Melaka House Fire After Mother Left Her Alone At Home
The mother left her at home and told a neighbour to keep watch in case she woke up.
A baby girl recently died in a tragic fire in Melaka while she was left alone at home
According to Bernama, the incident took place on Wednesday, 19 February at a family home in Kampung Bangkahulu, Gemas.
Firemen found the remains of the 10-month-old victim in the living room. She had sustained 30% burns on her body.
The baby's mother reportedly left the child alone while she went to the post office
Harian Metro reported that the 31-year-old woman put her baby to sleep in an electronic cradle before heading to the Gemas post office at 10.30am.
She then told a neighbor to keep an eye on the baby while she was gone.
Tampin district deputy police chief DSP Ahmad Pilus Zainal said, "The mother left her baby in their rental home around 10.30am and told a neighbour to keep watch in case she woke up."
"However, she later received a call from the neighbour and was told that her house was on fire," he added.
DSP Ahmad Pilus also explained that her husband was on duty at the Syed Sirajuddin Army camp when the fire broke out.
Police have classified the baby's death as sudden death
The Star reported that the Fire and Rescue Department is investigating the cause of the incident.
DSP Ahmad Pilus said, "For now, we have classified the baby's death as sudden death. We are still probing if the fire was an act of arson or caused by other factors."
Meanwhile, the victim's remains have been sent to Tampin Hospital for an autopsy.
