Babysitter Saves Baby Boy's Life By Braving House Fire That Destroyed 5 Housing Units
The three-month-old's parents were working and not present at the time of the incident.
A babysitter saved the life of the baby boy she was caring for by braving a raging house fire that broke out on Monday, 6 November
The incident started at 8.19pm, at Jalan Raja Muda Musa, near the Kampung Baru gateway, where five houses were engulfed in flames.
According to theSundaily, the babysitter, Robiah Abdul Raof, told reporters she was caring for the three-month-old baby when she noticed smoke coming from the upper floor of the double-storey house.
Thinking fast, she immediately picked up the infant and dashed out of the building as fast as possible.
"The baby was sleeping at that time and I immediately picked up the baby to escape the fire. I didn't have time to grab clothes or identification documents... I was determined to save myself and the baby that I have been caring for the past three months," Robiah told reporters.
She also revealed that the baby's parents were not present in the house at the time as they were at work.
The 38-year-old was visibly shaken but relieved that she managed to save herself and the baby.
A team of firefighters was dispatched to the scene when they received an emergency call
According to a statement by the Fire and Rescue Department, 36 firefighters arrived at the scene and immediately went to work putting out the fire.
90% of the house was determined by on-scene firefighters to have been damaged. No casualties were reported in spite of the damage.
The Fire and Rescue Department also determined that the fire was caused by faulty wires short-circuiting
According to The Star, the destroyed house was 60 years old and in bad condition, which explained the faulty wiring causing the fire.
The house owner, 65-year-old Abdul Rahman Maarif, said that his house was partitioned into five units and housed his nine employees who work at his restaurant nearby.
"Previously, the workers told me there was a problem with the wiring and I fixed it before tonight's fire," he told on-site reporters.
