MOH: Utama Cluster The Biggest Contributor To Cases In Selangor
The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that the Utama Cluster has recorded 132 cases so far and has spread across several districts.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has recently announced that the Utama Cluster is the largest contributor to the number of new COVID-19 cases in Selangor
Out of the total of 150 new cases reported in Selangor yesterday, 15 October, 105 were from the Utama cluster.
Named after 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, the cluster has recorded a total 132 cases since it was first identified on Saturday, 10 October.
According to MOH, the cluster has recorded cases in several districts including Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, and even Alor Gajah in Melaka
The 132 positive cases involve 87 security staff, 18 cleaning staff, 16 workers in different premises within the mall, six patrons, and five of their relatives.
The ministry initially suspected Case 12,549 as the index case. However, further investigations found that Case 15,023 is the index case as he started experiencing symptoms much earlier.
Case 15,203 is a 28-year-old security guard who started experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, and flu since 22 September.
He then tested positive for COVID-19 on 8 October after a close contact screening and was admitted into Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
However, yesterday, 1 Utama management issued a statement saying that the index case did not originate from the mall.
So far, 447 individuals have been screened
The mall has been ordered to close from 11 October to 16 October for sanitisation.
