Two Bodies Pulled Out From Sea In Search And Rescue Operation Near Tanjung Piai, Johor

Two more bodies were pulled out from the sea near Tanjung Piai where a boat ferrying Indonesian immigrants home for Hari Raya capsized on Monday night.

"The bodies were found by a ship that had anchored in the area before informing the MMEA," MMEA South Region 6 enforcement head Captain Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said when contacted today, adding that the bodies have been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post-mortem.

"We will resume the search for the missing seven victims and will also intensify our watch in our effort to stop further illegal entry and exit of immigrants," he said. A total of 61 immigrants, comprising 52 men and nine women were rescued. In a statement, Johor Baru MMEA enforcement chief Captain Aminuddin Abd Rashid said initial investigation revealed that there were 72 passengers on board the capsized boat.

A Man And A Woman Have Died

The dead, a man and a woman, were among 61 people pulled out of the water by fire and rescue personnel, said Johor assistant director of fire and rescue operations Mohd Rizal Buang.

Search And Rescue Operations Continue For 19 Others Feared To Have Drowned

Mohd Rizal said 20 fire and rescue personnel were continuing to search for the remaining passengers of the boat. Ten others were injured and sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital, he said, adding that the 49 others were safe.
