Red Carpet @ i-City Shah Alam which caught fire in January will reopen on April 14 with more interactive wax figurines.

Admission fees are RM35 for adult MyKad holders and RM30 for children with MyKid, while foreigners pay RM50 and RM35 for adults and children respectively.

As one of the Visit Malaysia Year 2014's main attraction, Red Carpet@i-City is expected to be a major crowd puller for the I-City's theme park.

She added Red Carpet@i-City would emerge as the first wax museum in Malaysia to introduce the revolutionary 3D scanning facility to capture visual data on the shape and appearance of the subject within few minutes, thus leading to the contruction of digital three-dimensional models.

SHAH ALAM: Ten wax figures at the I-City’s Red Carpet wax museum were destroyed after three men torched them in an arson attack last Wednesday.

I-City information manager Tang Soke Cheng said the arsonists entered the wax museum about 3am.

"In the CCTV recording, the suspects are seen wearing hats and gloves in the incident... however, we cannot comment further until investigations are completed," he said when contacted.

Closed-circuit television footage showed three men, their faces covered, splashing kerosene or petrol on several wax figurines before setting them on fire during the 2.45am incident on Jan 29.

It is believed that fire alarms were set off by the fire and security officers then spotted the fire and called the fire department.

Firemen who arrived shortly, managed to put out the flames and saved more figurines from being destroyed in the blaze.

“Fortunately, the damage was limited as a result of the quick response by the police and the fire and rescue department,” said I-Berhad information manager Tang Soke Cheng.

It said that according to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which had been handed over to the police, there was a high likelihood that the break-in and fire were the work of saboteurs involving three individuals.

She said authorities also suspected that it could be sabotage as the entrance used by the men was manned by security guards.

She added that i-City's auxiliary police team was currently working with the Selangor police on the case.

"Our focus was on public safety but we will now also beef-up our security and auxiliary police patrol to lookout for the deliberate disruption to the place.

Meanwhile, i-Bhd, the master developer of i-City, said the fire had dealt a blow to tourism as it was one of Malaysia’s recommended destinations during Visit Malaysia Year 2014. “Such an irresponsible act not only jeopardises the country’s image but deters tourists from visiting Malaysia,” she said.

“We are investigating it from all angles. It could be an inside job,” he said yesterday.

Tang said police were investigating how the three men had broken into the guarded premises.

Shah Alam CID chief DSP Muhammad Idzham Jaafar said the case was being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house, etc).

Police on Monday confirmed that the fire that destroyed 10 exhibits at the The Red Carpet Wax Museum at i-City here last Wednesday was an act of sabotage.

The main exhibition area is closed to the public for reconstruction and replacement of the damaged wax exhibits. “This is expected to take two months to complete,” Tang said.

The museum's operation team has taken alternative measures to relocate a number of unaffected wax exhibits to a smaller location for visitors to interact and enjoy the experienece at RM5 per entry.

Tang said those who had bought tickets for the Chinese New Year period could choose either to visit the newly-refurbished wax museum on a later date or write in to the company for a refund.
