A Group Of 2,000 Chinese-American Immigrants Are Rooting For Donald Trump
Oh, the irony!
We all know Donald Trump is a hate spewing racist. He is also a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, misogynist, and a bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S.
In fact, Trump's racism has even earned him the endorsement of white supremacists.
Despite all that, the real estate mogul and reality television star has become the Republican Party's presumptive presidential nominee
While it is evident that Trump, with his immature politics and narrow-minded world-view, cannot be considered a fit and proper person to occupy the office of president, the fact that he has reached almost close to it shows how a large number of American voters, who are so angry about the state of their country, so dissatisfied with the system and so fearful of global changes that they are ready to suspend normal, informed judgment.
While Trump's popularity among conservative American voters has surprised many — considering the fact that he himself is not very conservative — what's even more surprising is that there's a group called "Chinese-Americans for Trump". And its members, some 2,000 in numbers, like to join his rallies dressed in white T-shirts with red lettering that reads "Chinese Americans heart Trump".
They are supporting Trump because "when he speaks, it's very straightforward," says Los Angeles resident Tian Wang, the founder of "Chinese Americans for Trump" group, which has now spread to 15 cities in the U.S. They have also called the billionaire "fatherly".
Nancy Jian, a "Chinese-Americans for Trump" member, while speaking to Elizabeth Lee of Voice of America, said that she feels she can understand the way Trump talks.
"It's like a parent. My father often uses this type of tone to talk to us when we don’t listen to him. Our father will scold us but I believe it's not a big problem. The key point is when it comes to Trump’s idea of how to govern the country, he is very tough."
And when informed about Trump's "tough stance" which included some strong words during his campaign on China calling it a "currency manipulator", Nancy said: "I feel it's not a problem because I believe he will make a correct and wise decision. Also, he's said in the past when dealing with North Korea, he will let China solve the problem. The United States is already dealing with a lot of difficulties. We don’t want to go to war. We really need to improve our economy. We need to support this kind of talented leader."
Tian Wang, who believes Trump loves Chinese people, said the reason he supports Trump and the Republican Party because conservative values are more in line with core Chinese values
“Especially the same sex bathroom issue. Come on, Obama,” Wang said, although Trump has taken multiple stands on the issue
“The legalization of marijuana and the legalization of same sex marriage are all issues we really don’t like -- we’re against them. When we came to the United States, what was most important to us was our future. The reason we came is because it’s democratic and free, the land of opportunity. If we go on this path and everyone smokes marijuana, if all the kids go down the wrong path, and become gay, then won’t it be chaos?” asked group member Vivian Chen.
Wang, the founder of "Chinese-Americans for Trump" was recently interviewed by MSNBC's Jacob Soboroff, who paraded him around in order to be confronted by other Asians for his political views:
While the "Chinese-Americans for Trump" group thinks of him as a "father figure", Trump often attacks China for taking jobs from U.S.
“We can’t allow China to rape our country,” Trump said earlier this month. “And that’s what they’re doing. It’s the greatest theft in the history of the world.”
