Chinese Man Spends Over RM12K To Remove A Metal Bar He Swallowed For A Bet Of RM3,100

Earlier this week, a Chinese man had a surgery to remove a metal object from his stomach, which he swallowed a year ago in a bet

According to a report in South China Morning Post (SCMP), which cited local media Chengdu Economic Daily, the unnamed man from Chengdu in China's southwestern Sichuan province had swallowed the 20cm thin metal bar while drinking.

He reportedly did so for a 5,000 yuan (approx RM3,100) bet.

In order to successfully swallow the metal object, he sealed it in a plastic cylinder from a pen, according to his doctor Liu Bin, SCMP reported via Chengdu Economic Daily.

For a year, the man went on to live his life normally

While he wasn't in any pain or discomfort, he eventually got anxious thinking that it remained inside his stomach and decided to go to the Nuclear Industry 416 Hospital.

At the hospital, an X-ray test revealed that the metal object had remained inside his stomach, with one end of the bar piercing his gastric wall, according to SCMP.

The surgery, that lasted more than an hour and a half, cost the man 20,000 yuan (approx RM12,400), which is almost four times the bet

According to his doctor, the man was recovering well.
