Cleaning Work Along The NSE Leads To Discovery Of Car Crash Victim After 10 Months
Police found a human skull, which they believe belonged to the driver who was involved in a road accident, that happened around May last year and had gone unnoticed until its discovery on Friday, 19 February.
Highway maintenance workers found a human skull along with a crashed car in a ditch near Batu Pahat, Johor, yesterday, 19 February
Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Ismail Dollah said they received an alert after the highway maintenance workers were cleaning a slope drain on the left side of the North-South Expressway (NSE).
"The skull was found near a car that was hidden behind the bushes on the slope, about 67 metres from the highway. It was believed that the driver had lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and plunged down the slope," ACP Ismail was reported as saying earlier today, 20 February.
Police believe the fatal road accident happened around May or June last year and had gone unnoticed until its discovery on Friday
ACP Ismail said that a preliminary investigation found that the car's position was somewhat sheltered behind a slope covered in bushes, due to which the accident had gone unnoticed so far.
Authorities are now working to identify the victim through the owner of the vehicle who has been identified and at the same time investigate the missing person reports lodged in June last year.
In the meantime, the skull was sent to the Pathology Department of Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Johor Bahru for further investigation according to Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
