New Report Shows Corruption Is Not A Major Problem In Malaysia Anymore

Corruption is not a serious issue in Malaysia anymore, according to the nation's improved ranking in the Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index (CPI)
According to their website, Transparency International is an international non-governmental organisation based in Berlin, Germany.
Their objective is to fight against global corruption as well as prevent criminal activities arising from it.
The CPI, which is published by Transparency International annually, ranks countries based on their level of corruption, taking into account misuse of public power for private benefit, bribery, and diversion of public funds.
Compared to 2018, Malaysia has gone up 10 places to rank 51 out of 180 countries in the 2019 CPI
Additionally, The Straits Times reported that Malaysia improved in terms of score, attaining 53 points out of 100 in the corruption index.
This marks a notable advancement for Malaysia, as in 2018, the nation only ranked 61 out of 180 countries with a score of 47 out of 100.
The Malaysian score was based on nine survey sources gathered by Transparency International.
In response to this, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad acknowledged that corruption is no longer a crucial matter
"Previously, of course, people talked about corruption but now there is less and this has been noted by those people," Dr Mahathir said, as quoted by New Straits Times.
"But there is still some corruption and we are working on eradicating it," he added.
Malaysia's improvement could be accredited to Pakatan Harapan's resolve against various scandals
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, 23 January, Transparency International Malaysia president Dr Muhammad Mohan said that the nation's improved score was due to Pakatan Harapan's swift action in addressing scandals such as the 1MDB and SRC International scandals.
"The new government has committed to make Malaysia free of corruption," Dr Muhammad said, as quoted by The Straits Times.
