"I Am Ready To Be DAP's First Malay Chief"
DAP's Veteran party man Zulkifli Mohd Noor has offered himself to replace DAP's current chief Karpal Singh because he feels that DAP lacks Malay leadership.
Zulkifli Mohd Noor offers himself to be DAP's first Malay chief
Five days before the DAP holds its central executive committee (CEC) re-elections, party veteran of 26 years Zulkifli Mohd Noor has thrown the gauntlet to the leadership that will be voted in to appoint a Malay as the new national chairman of the DAP.
He said he was willing to do so if he was elected into the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) during the Sept 29 re-elections.
He says he is prepared to be elected into the party's CEC during the 29 Sept DAP re-election if Karpal Singh is ready to move on
But Bayan Baru parliamentary liaison committee chairman Zulkifli Mohd Noor said he was prepared to take over the reins only if Karpal was willing to step aside to make way for others.
“I’m offering to be the first ethnic Malay DAP national chairman. I’m not asking Karpal to retire.
"If he (Karpal) feels that it is high time for somebody else, I am willing to offer myself as no Malay has been the president.
Zulkifli rationalizes that electing a Malay chief into DAP will truly reflect the party's multi-racial politics
"My suggestion and request is rational if the party is truly serious about practicing democracy based on multiculturalism," he said in a press conference yesterday.
malaysiandigest.com“Why not a Malay becomes the DAP boss? The party never had a Malay chairman. “Only then it will truly reflect DAP’s multi-racial politics,” Zulkifli told a press conference here today.
The previous deputy secretary general is one of seven Malays eligible to stand in the party re-elections which was ordered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) following a tabulation error.

Zulkifli said the Malays in the party are a "50 sen race", and that without them, "you will not be able to reach one million. Even with three or four Malay leaders in the party, it is already enough to lie to Malaysians that DAP is a multi-racial party," he said.
Zulkifli also took umbrage at the state's current line-up of elected representatives, pointing out that none of the 19 were Malays. He claimed party members were beginning to realize that DAP could not garner Malay support without the involvement of Malays in its leadership.

Zulkifi wants to return the party to its original socialist-democratic ideals that he feels has lost after the party gained power in the 2008 general elections
Zulkifli said he was offering himself for the top job because he relished the challenge to bring back the party to its original roots based on socialist-democratic ideals. He said the party once was a pro-poor socialist-democratic outfit.
He said since gaining state powers in Penang after 2008 general election, the DAP had rapidly transformed into a pro-rich capitalist family cartel. He said sacrifices and contributions of veterans and senior members have all been sidelined and ignored.
“Now the DAP leaders rub shoulders with the rich and powerful elites, and these infiltrators and traitors only. DAP, which previously championed pro-poor policies, is now embarking on mega projects,” he said.
He said the delegates had claimed that the state government’s much-lauded open tender policy was actually a remote controlled tender process, in which the final outcome would be determined by a hidden hand.
Zulkifli Mohd Noor, a party vetern, is a former DAP national vice-president
Zulkifli joined DAP 21 years ago and worked for the late Ahmad Nor for five years when the latter was a member of parliament.
