DBKL: Direct Food Distribution To Homeless During Ramadan Not Allowed
Those failing to abide by the directive could face enforcement action.

Direct distribution of goods or food to homeless people by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or individuals is no longer allowed during Ramadan around Kuala Lumpur effective immediately
The ban against helping the homeless has been implemented by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
In a statement on Friday, 9 April, the city council specified that the step was being taken to prevent waste and pollution as well as to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic under its administration.
DBKL stated that the direct distribution of food to the homeless was creating an inconvenience to the owners of the premises in the area
According to the city council, it found NGOs and individuals distributing food to the homeless at hotspot locations such as around Masjid Jamek, Central Market, and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
"This has caused disturbance and inconvenience to the owners of premises and showed the community's negative perception towards DBKL," read the statement, as reported by Bernama.
"Food distribution activities seem to be out of control, especially during Ramadan."
Instead, those wishing to assist the homeless with food can do so through two homeless transit centres and a community learning centre
According to DBKL, food distribution can be made through two homeless transit centres in Jalan Pahang and Medan Tuanku and also through the Community Learning Centre in Chow Kit.
The city council said that those who wish to donate food are required to call 03-2617 6321 for scheduling purposes and that those who failed to abide by the directive could face enforcement action.
