20-year-old Calvin Ee Lik Yong's selfless act to save two of his friends, Muhammad Zarif Hamzah and Abd Halim Suhaimi, also 20, from drowning in sea at Pantai Puteri cost Calvin his life

According to The Star Online, Calvin, of Bukit Katil Industrial Training (ILP), had gone on a camping trip at the beach with 7 others at about 9.30am, 10 October.

He drowned after he dove into the sea at Pantai Puteri, Malacca, trying to help two of his college mates Muhammad Zarif Hamzah and Abd Halim Suhaimi who were waving for help in the water. Both Zarif and Halim had decided to go for a swim and soon got into trouble and were asking for help.

Another college mate, 21-year-old Muhamad Hanafi Johar, said that:

“I and Ee rushed into the water. I went towards Muhammad Zarif while Ee tried to save Abd Halim,” Hanafi said. Ee soon got into trouble himself and drowned. His body was recovered about three hours later.

Zarif and Halim were rescued by other swimmers there

Another student Ng Yau Kheng said he tried to stop Ee from going into the water as he knew Ee was not a good swimmer.

"But he was determined to save his friends and for us he died as a hero," Ng said.
