Police confident of nabbing the murdered with photograph identification

City police are expected to release the photograph of the suspect who gunned down Customs Department deputy-director general Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim in Putrajaya on April 26.

The police have refuted reports that the murder of Customs deputy director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim last month might be linked to a luxury car smuggling syndicate.

Saharuddin's murder linked to car smuggling syndicate

The murder of Customs deputy director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim last month is suspected to be linked to a local car smuggling syndicate.

Sources told Berita Harian today that the syndicate is believed to be bringing in luxury cars from Langkawi to the mainland without paying excise duties or road tax which allows vehicles to be used on the mainland after it exceeds 90 days.

Customs department detected the syndicate's activities last year.

"The syndicate is suspected of selling these imported cars at tax reduced prices. Shaharuddin had received information of such activities and ordered relevant authorities to take necessary action," said the source.

Second suspect held over Saharuddin's murder

POLICE have arrested a second suspect to facilitate investigations into the murder of Customs deputy director-general II Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim.
