Malaysiakini reported that the incident happened at around 8.15pm last Tuesday, 20 December at a clinic in Taman Cheras Utama.

It was reported that the head of the boy's penis was accidentally cut off by the doctor who was performing the procedure using a laser scalpel

The doctor had apparently informed the father of the child of the accident and the boy was then taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for a surgery to reattach the tip of the penis.

The father had lodged a police report of the incident at HKL.

Circumcision is a common practice for young Muslim boys and the procedure is traditionally done with blades. But with the emergence of technology, more parents are starting to opt for the laser technique which will be performed under anesthesia.

According to The Star, the doctor in question has 21 years of experience and had graduated from the University of Karachi in Pakistan.

However, the clinic he's attached to has been in operation for 15 years without being registered under the Health Ministry.

The doctor has since admitted that the accident had occurred and lodged a report over the incident.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Kajang district police officer ACP Othman Nanyan said that witnesses have been called in for investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 388 of the Penal Code for causing grievous injury due to negligence. If proven guilty, the offender can be sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison or slapped with a fine amounting to RM2,000 or both.
