Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkelfy Ahmad has instructed for junior doctors, also known as house officers (HO), to be immediately placed in district hospitals in need

Dr Dzulkelfy said he has directed Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan to take the necessary measures to address the shortage of doctors in government hospitals.

"I am aware of and am deeply concerned about the grievances faced by health officers daily," he said in a tweet on Thursday, 16 May.

He assured the public that mid-term and long-term plans to resolve the issue are also being implemented.

The health minister made the posts in response to a viral photo of an apology for the five-hour waiting time at a hospital in Kedah due to a shortage of doctors

The message claimed that doctors at the hospital have been working until they faint and fall sick, and that many others have resigned and gone to private hospitals.

"We want to serve the people, but we are also human, we can get tired and sick. We hope you understand. We apologise," read the notice.

Dzulkefly added that he would continue monitoring the situation and implement reforms within the ministry

"There are 147 hospitals and over 3,000 clinics under the Health Ministry nationwide, I definitely receive numerous complaints," he said.

However, he said he welcomed the feedback, saying that he would continue to pay attention to criticisms and take appropriate action.
