A 26-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of three policemen who were manning roadblocks in Simpang Pulai and Gopeng during an incident that happened on 27 May

The accused, Mohammad Aguib Roslan, is a part-time lorry driver from Kampar, Perak.

The two charges against him state that at 10.30am on 27 May, he rammed his Toyota Avanza into a roadblock on Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah (Chandan Desa), Simpang Pulai, and then 30 minutes later rammed into another roadblock at KM19.7 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur-bound), Gopeng.

He is accused of being aware that his actions could cause the death of three policemen, namely Lance Corporal Mohd Hasanudin Hassan, who was manning the first roadblock, and Lance Corporal Shahrul Muhairi Muha and Lance Corporal Ahmad Shahribi Zainun, manning the second roadblock.

On Friday, 5 June, Mohammad Aguib, however, pleaded not guilty to both the charges after they were read before Ipoh Session's Court Judge Azman Abu Hassan.

The accused has been charged with attempt to murder

Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder states:

"Whoever does any act with such intention or knowledge and under such circumstances, that if he by that act caused death he would be guilty of murder, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if hurt is caused to any person by such act, the offender shall be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to twenty years."

Meanwhile, when asked by Judge Azman about his actions, the accused said he was dared by one of his friends in the same vehicle

According to the 26-year-old, he was forced to ram into these roadblocks after one of his friends, who was with him inside the Toyota Avanza, influenced him as they had criminal records.

"Since we had rammed into the first roadblock, we might as well go all out and hit the second one," he said, as reported by New Straits Times.

Two other men, 21-year-old Mohamad Ikhwan Fahmiezie Loddin and 22-year-old Mohd Ashaduzzaman Mohd Khokon Mia, were inside the vehicle together with the accused during the incident.

The Judge fixed bail at RM5,000 in one surety for the two charges and set 9 July for re-mention.

All three of them were later also charged at the Magistrate's Court with flouting the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties.

Mohammad Aquib was fined RM1,000 in default of three months' jail, while Mohamad Ikhwan and Mohd Ashaduzzaman were jailed three months each for flouting the CMCO.

Mohammed Aquib was also fined RM5,000 for obstructing the duties of policemen at the Simpang Pulai and Gopeng roadblocks, while the other two were sentenced to nine months jail from the date of arrest.
