An elderly man in Pahang travelled 35km by foot to get himself vaccinated against COVID-19
Berita Harian reported that on Wednesday, 14 July, 78-year-old Shaikh Ramly Sheikh Ahmad, who has a visual impairment, walked alone from Kampung Kertau to the Kuala Wau Health Clinic, carrying only a bag and a cane.
He found out about the vaccination programme from a person who sent food aid to his house the day before
Prior to that, he had not registered for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.
He said, "I left home at 6am because I had to walk to the clinic, which is quite far from home. I was really hoping to get the jab today because I never registered for the vaccination programme due to the lack of technological facilities, besides having problems with my vision."
The man caught the attention of a news photographer who was on his way to cover the progamme
According to Harian Metro, photographer Farizul Hafiz Awang was in a car with a friend when he saw Shaikh Ramly walking alone. Coincidentally, he was headed to the same destination, so Farizul Hafiz gave him a ride.
Once they arrived at the clinic, Shaikh Ramly was assisted by a police officer who helped him get registered and then receive his vaccine injection.
