#GE15: Here's How Much Each PKR Candidate Owns Since They Declared Their Assets
"We want to be as transparent as possible to show to the public that we can be trusted," said PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.
In an unprecedented move, the parliamentary candidates from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) have publicly declared their assets ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15)
According to Malaysiakini, this is the first time a party has decided to publicly publish their asset declarations since Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidates did so in the 1999 general election.
PKR deputy president and Pandan candidate Rafizi Ramli, the first party member to declare his assets, said all candidates in the party are required to follow suit to instil public confidence
"We want to be as transparent as possible to show to the public that we can be trusted," Rafizi said, as quoted by The Star.
"It's about setting a higher standard for candidates – if they wish to serve in public office, they must be open to public scrutiny about their finances."
He added that he could not force candidates from other parties to follow the move, but said the public deserved to know their financial situations and connections too.
Rafizi declared he owned RM18.9 million in net assets as of 31 October.
Since then, most of PKR's parliamentary candidates contesting in GE15 have submitted their asset declarations on a public website
According to the PKR website, here are the net assets some notable party members have declared:
– PKR president and Tambun candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim: RM11.2 million
– PKR deputy president and Pandan candidate Rafizi Ramli: RM18.9 million
– PKR vice president and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari: RM639,273
– PKR vice president and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun: RM2.1 million
– PKR adviser and Bandar Tun Razak candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail: RM1.4 million
– PKR Sungai Buloh candidate Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan: RM63.5 million
– PKR Simpang Renggam candidate Dr Maszlee Malik: RM439,663
The asset declarations also detail the candidates' sources of income, savings, investments, real estate, cars, and debts
New Straits Times reported that the candidates have so far logged more than RM354 million in total net asset value on the website.
The candidate with the highest amount is Tanah Merah candidate Datuk Seri Mohd Supardi Md Noor, who declared RM106.1 million in net assets, and owns up to RM100 million from his investments in DNS Capital Sdn Bhd and iLimo Stalite LTD, as well as RM5.3 million in real estate.
