KUALA LUMPUR: A bomb scare aboard an Indian budget carrier that was forced to land at the KL International Airport had disposal experts barging into a toilet where a cabin crew had spotted a mysterious package.

A cabin crew member of the IndiGo flight from Singapore to Chennai had spotted the package in the toilet of the aircraft and thought it could be chemicals or a bomb.
The crew decided to ground the airplane and all 144 passengers were evacuated upon landing at the KLIA at around 7.30am yesterday.

“We sent in 18 officers in hazmat suits to investigate the package. We handled the package carefully and slowly unwrapped the ragged cloth covering it ... only to find gold!” Mohd Sani said the gold bars each measured 5.1x15.2cm and weighed less than 1kg.
