Yesterday, 14 April, caretaker federal territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor told a crowd of civil servants that DAP is a "chauvinist party" made up of mostly Christian evangelists leaders

"If they are Catholics I would believe them, but when they are evangelists, new Christians, this is the problem," he explained at the ceremony of two surau in Putrajaya's Precint 11K and 11F, reported Malaysiakini.

"This is what DAP really is, and it is Pakatan Harapan's backbone so you must be careful," he warned the audience.

The speech was posted on Tengku Adnan's Facebook page.

Despite his comments, Tengku Adnan has insisted that he has nothing against other religions, as that is not the Islamic way

"There's even a Quranic verse which states that your religion is your religion and my religion is my religion," said the politician.

"This is what Islam is all about, you shouldn't brand Islam as (a religion of) terrorism and other things," he said.

DAP leader Hannah Yeoh has since criticised Tengku Adnan's "divisive and offensive" remarks that "spread lies about the DAP and Christians"

"As a Federal Minister, he should guard his mouth and not be careless with words. We await his apology," she said in a statement released yesterday.

Hannah told Malaysiakini that, "(He is) dividing Catholics and evangelicals. Either way you read it, it is offensive."

The DAP politician called Tengku Adnan "irresponsible" for making remarks that could also create friction between Christians and those of other faiths.

The DAP leader pointed out the hypocrisy of Tengku Adnan's comments, considering the government's recent passing of the Anti-Fake News law

"This hypocrisy is the reason why Barisan Nasional cannot be entrusted with another term to govern and to brainwash civil servants with poisonous lies," said Yeoh, according to Malay Mail.

"It is no surprise we are where we are today as a nation because we have liars as Ministers," she added.
