Friends star David Schwimmer aka Ross Geller recently posted a video "proving" that he was not the thief lookalike who was caught stealing drinks in Blackpool, UK

The video shows the actor leaving a store carrying a crate of cans similar to the alleged theft that took place on 20 September.

Schwimmer wrote on Twitter: "Officers, I swear it wasn't me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation."

Here's the video clip Schwimmer posted:

On Tuesday, 23 October, Blackpool Police posted on its Facebook page an image of a suspected thief asking if anyone recognised the man

The photo went viral with netizens commenting that the "thief" had a remarkable resemblance to David Schwimmer from the popular TV series, Friends.

The post, which garnered over 110,000 shares since it's posting on Tuesday, has received hilarious comments from netizens

One person commented with a quote from Friends theme song, "I don't think it's been this guy's day, his week, his month, or even his year..."

Another commented that he's surprised police haven't found the suspect, while adding lyrics from the show's theme song - "It's like you're always stuck in second gear."

One netizen said to give the guy a break, recalling one of Ross' lines from a Friends episode: "I grew up with Monica. If you didn't eat fast, you didn't eat!"

Other people chimed in with more Friends references

Amidst the puns, the police also gave their own witty response:

At least now we know who wasn't the culprit :p
