Almost 50,000 Foreigners Have Been Granted Citizenship In Malaysia Since 2008

The highest number applicants were from Indonesia.

Since 2008, a total of 49,361 foreigners have been granted Malaysian citizenship, said the Home Ministry

According to a report from Free Malaysia Today, the confirmation was made through a written statement in response to a question by Bukit Mertajam MP Sim Chee Keong.

The ministry also said the highest number of applicants were from Indonesia, followed by India and Cambodia

The gender breakdown consists of 16,700 male applicants and 32,661 female applicants. Six of them are below 21 years old while the remaining 49,355 are above 21.

However, the ministry were not able to divulge their profession or salary as the National Registration Department does not keep a record of those details

The number might soon rise, as the Home Ministry announced earlier this year that it will be bringing up to 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers to meet the growing demands of local employers:
