Indian Parents Allegedly Sell Their Baby To Buy An iPhone To Make Instagram Reels
The father had also attempted to sell their seven-year-old daughter.
A couple in India has been accused of selling their eight-month-old son to buy an iPhone, according to the local authorities
The disturbing incident happened in the Barrackpore sub-division of the eastern region of India.
The police claim that the couple, identified as Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, had a bizarre motive behind their shocking act — they allegedly wanted to make Instagram Reels after buying the expensive smartphone.
The couple also has a seven-year-old daughter
According to a report in The Indian Express today, 28 July, the police also alleged that the father had attempted to sell their seven-year-old daughter, but fortunately, the plan did not materialise.
The mother and the woman who purchased the baby have been apprehended by the authorities. However, the father, Jaydev, is currently on the run, prompting a search operation to nab him.
The case came to light when the infant was reported missing Saturday, 22 July, by local residents who got suspicious
The couple had not filed any missing complaint with the police.
It was the discovery of the couple flaunting the brand-new iPhone that aroused suspicion among the neighbours, who immediately alerted the police about the situation, reported NDTV, another Indian outlet.
Following questioning by the police, the mother, Sathi, eventually confessed to the crime.
She revealed that she and her husband hatched the plan to sell their child to fund trips across the state. Their intention was to use these trips to create content for Instagram Reels.
The police were able to rescue the infant
According to the authorities, the infant was rescued from Priyanka Ghosh, a resident in the same district.
The shocking incident has left the community in disbelief, with the local authorities working diligently to ensure that the father is brought to justice for his role in this appalling act.
