The Batam District Court sentenced on Monday two Malaysians and a Singaporean to death for smuggling 168,987 ecstasy pills.

A total of 168,987 ecstasy pills seized by Police from a home in Daan Mogot Baru Housing, Block JA, No. 33, Kalideres, West Jakarta, Thursday (06/06/2013) morning, be ascertained came from Malaysia.

The trio smuggled the drugs from Malaysia into Indonesia via Batam.

Perpetrator packed ecstasy into 163plastic wraps divided each of 81 and 82 packs, before being put into the two compressors. The Ecstasy was later sent from Johor Baru, Malaysia to Batam, by sea. After arriving in Batam,illicit goods was further take the sea route to Pekanbaru, Riau. After of Riau, ecstasy sent to Jakarta through the land by trucks.

They were caught in the act of receiving the drugs, while the Singaporean was arrested in a nearby restaurant while eating there with his wife and children.

“The defendants have been found guilty of smuggling the drugs. They gave complicated and conflicting explanations and denied possessing the drugs,” presiding judge Jack Octavianus said.
