JKM Defends Rina Harun Against Criticism Of Her Flood Clean-Up Video
The Social Welfare Department (JKM) said it feels that it is unfair for netizens to make accusations and belittle the efforts of Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun in the clean-up operation.
"!!?"
That's all the Lembah Pantai lawmaker was able to muster after watching a video of Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun cleaning a cement floor with a water jet.
Yesterday, 26 December, PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil uploaded a 13-second long video of the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister
In the video, Rina can be seen cleaning the floor a school with a water jet while over a dozen individuals stand from afar watching her at work.
At least six bystanders are holding cameras to take photos and videos of Rina, including the video we are referencing for the story.
At the time of writing, the video has gone viral with over one million views and garnered more than 9,300 likes on Facebook.
Many netizens described Rina's school cleaning stunt as a 'photo op', while accusing her of 'just posing' for the cameras.
However, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has rubbished the claims in a statement last night
In a post published on Facebook, JKM said not only was Rina involved in cleaning the floor at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Salak Tinggi temporary relief centre (PPS), but she was also getting her hands dirty in cleaning up and arranging other logistics at the school.
The department under the purview of Rina's ministry said it was honoured to have Rina be involved in the operation to clean up the PPS in Sepang, Selangor.
"JKM, as the department that manages the operation, had requested Rina's assistance to clean up bird dropping stains that were difficult to get rid of before," the statement read.
"Since the water jet machine was already there, Rina accepted the request and did the work with an open heart."
The statement is accompanied by photos of Rina sweeping the floor, setting up a tent, and carrying tables at the school
Along with other Keluarga Malaysia volunteers, JKM said Rina had also cleaned up and rearranged the tables and chairs in the classrooms in preparation for the upcoming school session.
"JKM feels that it is unfair for netizens to make accusations and belittle the efforts and involvement of Rina in this clean-up operation," it said.
The department said the photos taken at the premises are for public viewing.
At the time of writing, "Rina Harun" has been trending on Twitter with over 51,000 tweets.
Most comments criticised Rina for 'pretending' to be helping the rakyat.
