Explaining the move, Datuk Azmi said that the public holiday will be granted as a sign of respect to the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and to appreciate the efforts of the Johor Southern Tigers.

"If Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) manage to win, the declaration would be made to thank the players and supporters for helping to bring back the title for the first time in 25 years," he said, as reported by New Straits Times (NST) yesterday, 1 November.

"It is also a tribute to the support given by the people of Johor to JDT, allowing it to create success after success so far," added Azmi

It was reported that the Sultan of Johor wanted to make this announcement of a possible public holiday earlier to make it easier for people to make prior arrangements. Sunday is a working day in Johor.

The weekend in Johor is Friday and Saturday, similar to how it is in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

When wrapping up his statement on this, Azmi also urged all Johor football fans to get their tickets and head to the Shah Alam stadium this Saturday to support the JDT team.
