Kedah Health Dept Defends Nurse After Video Shows Man Scolding Her For "Slow Service"
The video of the incident was posted on Facebook.
Kedah Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail has come to the defence of a nurse at Langkawi Hospital who was yelled at by a patient's husband, who accused her of "slow service"
According to Bernama, Norhizan stated that the medical personnel handled the incident professionally and in accordance with the hospital’s standard operating procedures.
The viral video posted on Facebook on 31 March shows the man, whose pregnant wife was seeking treatment, scold a nurse after another patient was prioritised over them
After the couple arrived at the hospital at about 2.20am, the woman was given a preliminary examination by a trained nurse on duty.
However, since the obstetrician and gynaecologist were preoccupied with a more urgent case requiring immediate surgery, the couple were told to wait for further treatment.
After waiting for nearly an hour, the man proceeded to yell at the nurse, blame the government and threaten to make a police report
In response to the nurse telling him that there were few members of staff on-call, the man exclaimed that, "That's why the government has to change" and "This is all UMNO's fault!"
A police report was lodged against the man as the Langkawi Hospital prepares a detailed report on the case
Norhizan confirmed that from the initial inspection, the man's wife was "not an emergency case" which required immediate action by a specialist doctor.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the video exemplifies the rough treatment hospital staff must endure during the discharge of their duties, TheSundaily reported.
